In the Heart of the Canyon

Zero Image 6x9, Kodak TMax 100

  1. I like the idea that one might find redemption in this heart, a cleansing of the soul that is weary of the everyday demands of modern life. An image like this is very personal to the artist, the only person who truly knows what it felt like to stand in exactly this spot. But even so, if it conveys just a minute fraction of that experience to the viewer, he or she is also greatly revived.

  2. Thank you for those thoughts, Paul! I like that idea too. As I read your words, I thought of the sense of wonder I experienced when I made this picture. I've always thought there must have once been water at this spot, but until that day, I'd never seen any there. Maybe there's redemption in that wonder - certainly relief for the weary soul in that little bit of wild space.
